I respectfully disagree with you on this and I will tell you why? For starters, anyone with the gift of discernment would clearly see and sense that Pastor Burrell’s ‘sermon’ didn’t come from a place of genuine love or care…
It came from a place of hostility, condemnation and vitriol! It was from a personal experience! I am not going to put her business out there but in due time, the real reason why she used “God” and the Bible to rant and vent about ‘the homosexual spirit’ will come to the light…
Like her and so many others, people tend to bring in their ego, anger and hate (be it internally or externally), where it does not belong and will use the gay community as their respective scapegoats. Why shouldn’t they? Given that the church has helped to make it socially OK to make gays the pillars and poster-children of everything negative and ‘sinful?’… smirksMany ‘out’ gays are in the church, this is true BUT what about all of those Pastors, Reverends and Deacons and regular members who are hiding their ‘homosexual spirit? These personalities hide behind fake marriages and relationships with women as they use their platform to project their own deception and self hatred into the minds and hearts of their flock. Like a domino effect… Many of their respective flocks will internal the disgust, hate and anger and will inevitably take the cues and attitudes they’ve gotten from church…
They will then, take their attitudes mixed in with beliefs and will negatively project those energies onto those that they see as having “the homosexual spirit” even their own children! Let me ask you this… How often do we witness Preachers or Reverends preaching against other very common place ‘sins’ at the same rate and frequency as they do with gay people? Even if they did, please tell us when have you ever witness a society or culture demonize, vilify, abuse, beat, discriminate against, berate, killed or outcast any said persons, for their ‘sin’, with the same ferocity and frequency as what has been done to people who struggle with a gay orientation?
How many people guilty of all of those other ‘sins’ that you’ve cited, were driven to the point of suicide because they could no longer take the endless mistreatment, shame, disrespect, hate and rejection due to their sins? You can’t name any because those individuals get a pass and ignored for their ‘sins’ by and by… This is true within the church and society as a whole! In closing, we can deny all of what I’ve shared all we want but the church (especially the black church) has handled this matter like a cesspool of modern day Pharisees and what did Jesus say about them? And people wonder why so many are fleeing the church and calling the average beLIEverhypocrites?
We often hear people blame the fall of the church on the devil — I happen to agree with this but its a devil that has been sitting in your circles and mentalities for a long time and now and they too are being exposed. Christianity as a whole has a lot of blood on their hands (no pun intended) and you should blame no one but yourselves. It is true that no man, woman or institution can escape karma and your day of reckoning is here. So man UP and woman UP and accept your respective spiritual lashings and corrective measures. There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me – The Twelve Days of Christmas.
What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won’t come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?
This week, I found out.
From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.
It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.
• The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
• Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
• Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
• The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
• The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
• The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
• Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit–Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
• The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
• Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit–Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
• The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.
• The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
• The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles’ Creed.
This is your history lesson for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening.
Now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol.
